Top 5 Women Who Can Rock!

5) Joan Jett

Joan Jett is the perfect blend of attitude and musicianship hanging between the worlds of Punk Rock and Hard Rock perfectly. Jett cemented her place as a true rocker starting with The Runaways all the way to her solo act and Joan Jett and The Black Hearts.

Not a single rock fan in the world is not aware of the massively successful title track "I Love Rock and Roll" off The Blackhearts' 1982 album which has become one of the most memorable tracks of the entire genre. Jett is definitely a rockstar that defines 'cool'.

4) Doro Pesch

Damn does this chick have pipes and it doesn't hurt that she's eye candy too. For those of you that don't know Doro Pesch, shame on you because she puts many male and female lead singers to shame. Fronting the German metal band Warlock in the 80's, all it takes is one listen to the band's biggest hit "All We Are" to know that Doro can really scream. Triumph and Agony is a heavy album that showcases the raw power of the band and Doro's aggressive vocals. Doro is still kicking ass today in leather and clad with her solo band.

3) Lita Ford

Another Runaway makes the list. Starting off as the lead guitarist for The Runaways, Lita Ford also had great success with her solo act in the 80's. Not only did she take on lead vocals for her solo band but she was also playing some cool leads with her classic BC Rich. Lita's back on the road with her solo band after her very long hiatus from the music industry.

2) Ann and Nancy Wilson

The sisters of Heart take spot # 2. Heart have some of the most recognizable songs in all of Rock and Roll including "Barracuda", "Crazy On You", and "Magic Man". Who can forget the crazy acoustic intro of "Crazy On You" played by Nancy Wilson and Ann Wilson's strong voice. Heart had a second life in the mid 80's thanks to the hugely successful self titled CD in 1985. Heart recently came off a co-headlining tour with Def Leppard in the summer of 2011.

1) Janis Joplin

Hands down the best female vocalist of all time. Why? Because she sounds like a dude (just kidding for all the feminists out there). The first statement still stands; Janis Joplin is one of the most unique vocalists that defined raspy vocals. She influenced singers of all genres, especially hard rock/metal (i.e. Blackie Lawless, Tom Keifer). Great lyricist, smoky vocals, electric stage presence and a barrage of timeless classics including: "Down On Me", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Coo Coo", "Summertime", "Piece of My Heart", "Turtle Blues", "Ball 'n' Chain", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Maybe", "To Love Somebody", "Kozmic Blues", "Work Me, Lord", "Move Over", "Cry Baby", "A Woman Left Lonely" "Get It While You Can", "My Baby", "Trust Me", "Mercedes Benz", "One Night Stand", "Raise Your Hand".

Joplin is easily one of the most recognizable vocalists as well as one of the most recognizable icons of the 60's. Joplin was the embodiment of a rockstar with undeniable artistic talent that was unfortunately cut short.
